Sign up to use Basic with up to 500 characters per generation. Daily check-in adds gift credits, which work with Basic only.
Monthly plan credits refresh each month and expire at the next refresh, including on yearly plans. Unused plan credits do not roll over. Plan credits are spent before gifts and purchased credits.
Failed, incomplete generations return their credits. Canceling a started generation uses credits. Guests can preview Basic three times per network address daily within a separate, sitewide 100,000-character allowance. Signed-in generation always uses credits and does not use this guest allowance.

Use the Play HT text to speech preview API to fetch public voices from GET /api/voices, then send your text, voice ID, and language to POST /api/tts. PlayHT returns an MP3 audio stream. The voice generator preview allows 500 characters without a subscription, or 10,000 with a valid signed-in subscriber session. Guests share three daily generations per network address and a sitewide daily allowance of 100,000 characters. Signed-in PlayHT requests use credits and bypass guest limits. Premium model access follows the active account plan. The API has no availability guarantee and is intended for short previews, not continuous production traffic.

How does the free Play HT AI voice generator work?

Can I choose another language or accent?
Play HT supports 85 script languages across Basic, Pro, and Max. Search PlayHT by language name or code; your preferred supported browser language is selected automatically. Native narrators appear first. If none are listed, another public narrator may work with differences in accent and pronunciation. PlayHT reads the script you provide: changing language does not translate it.
How do Basic, Pro, and Max differ?
The Play HT free AI voice generator uses Basic for previews of up to 500 characters. PlayHT offers Pro for readings with more character; it requires Starter or above. Max offers a more distinctive delivery and requires Studio or Enterprise. An active plan supports scripts of up to 10,000 characters per generation in PlayHT on its included models.
Can I download the audio?
Yes. Choose Download MP3 after PlayHT finishes your audio clip. PlayHT replay and download use no extra generation. Signed-in users can replay and download saved clips from Generation history after leaving the editor. Guests should download the clip before leaving or refreshing this page.
Can I create a private voice?
Yes. In Play HT, open My voices from your account menu or choose Voice Cloning in the sender menu. Upload or record a sample you own or have permission to use. PlayHT requires an active subscription. Creating a clone uses no credits; generation uses the selected model rate. Starter includes one active clone and two creations per month, Studio four and six, and Enterprise twenty and twenty. Deleted clones free a slot in PlayHT but still count toward the monthly creation allowance.
Is this the same as the archived Play.ht service?
PlayHT and Play.HT also refer to the earlier Play.ht brand. This Play HT service is independent. Earlier accounts, subscriptions, projects, and API credentials do not transfer to this PlayHT site.
What are the free preview limits?
The Play HT free AI voice generator allows up to 500 characters per generation and three guest generations per network address daily, resetting at 00:00 UTC. Guests also share a sitewide daily capacity of 100,000 characters. Active subscribers can use up to 10,000 characters in PlayHT on their included models. Signed-in users generate with credits and bypass both guest limits; check your account for the current welcome credit reward. Starting or cancelling a generation uses an attempt. Signed-in users find saved clips in PlayHT Generation history. Guests can replay and download their clip in the current session.
Where does my text go?
For text to speech, Play HT sends your script to an external speech-processing service and saves the script, settings, task result, and completed audio. Samples submitted for cloning are forwarded for creation; Play HT does not keep the original sample. Signed-in users can access their own PlayHT records in Generation history; administrators can view all tasks. Guest task records and stored audio are removed after seven days. Account records remain until account deletion or a removal request. PlayHT uses daily network hashes and character counts to enforce preview limits; credit records track billing history.
