The guide and input limits below apply to the simple merger. FilmCraft has its own timeline, export settings, and browser limits.
FROM VOICE TO VIDEO
The last step between an idea and a finished film.
A voice recording is only part of a story. Filmcraft is a free online video editor for the moment when your visuals are ready and your sound needs a home. Add audio to video, balance the original recording against your new track, and download a single MP4. You can use a voiceover made in Play HT, your own recording, or music you have permission to use. There is no account requirement for this tool and no watermark added to the exported video. Start with a short clip, listen to the mix, and leave with a file you can actually share.
Three steps. One finished MP4.
01
Bring your picture
Choose a video from your device or drop it into the preview. MP4 with H.264 video is the most reliable starting point; MOV and WebM support depends on their codecs and your browser. Filmcraft keeps the video's length and framing. Each input can be up to 200 MB and five minutes long. Check the preview before adding sound, especially with a phone recording that uses a less common format.
02
Give it a voice
Add an MP3, WAV, or M4A audio file. Set the start time to place your first word after an opening shot. Lower the original video sound for narration, or set it to zero to replace the soundtrack entirely. If a music bed is shorter than the picture, turn on looping. Without looping, the added audio stops naturally and the remaining video continues with the original sound at your chosen level.
03
Take the film with you
Preview the picture and sound together, then select Export MP4. Keep the tab open while the browser prepares your video. When the result appears, play it back and download the finished file. Filmcraft combines the picture and mixed sound into one MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Export time depends on the source format, clip length, and your device; you can cancel without losing your inputs.
Made for the footage you already have.
A clear product walkthrough
Pair a screen recording with a spoken explanation. Let the opening screen settle before the narration begins, then lower any incidental system sound. Preview a section with speech and a section without it so the balance feels consistent. This workflow works well for a short product demo, a customer tutorial, or a feature announcement.
A story with its own soundtrack
Bring a voiceover to a travel clip, add music to a social video, or explain a lesson over classroom footage. Your video keeps its existing aspect ratio, whether it is portrait, landscape, or square. Filmcraft focuses on one video and one added audio track; prepare cuts, titles, or captions in another editor before this final sound pass.
Before the final cut.
Is this online video editor really free?
Yes. Importing, previewing, mixing, and exporting in Filmcraft are free, with no sign-in and no added watermark. Generating a new voiceover with Play HT is a separate service with its own preview limits and credit rules. You can also use an existing audio file without generating any speech.
Are my video and audio uploaded?
The editor reads and processes the files locally in your browser. It does not upload your selected media to Play HT for merging. The page itself still loads website resources and uses the site's normal services. Closing or refreshing the page clears the project, so download the finished MP4 before leaving.
Can I keep the original sound?
Yes. Use the original sound slider to blend it with your voiceover or music. Set that slider to zero when you want to replace the original soundtrack. Both volume controls affect the preview and export. Keep music quieter than speech and listen with headphones before sharing your final video.
What happens when the audio is a different length?
The video determines the finished duration. A longer audio track is cut off at the end of the video. A shorter track stops when it ends, unless you enable looping. The start-time setting delays the added audio; it does not move the video. Choose a start time before the final frame.
Does Filmcraft work on my phone?
You can choose files and use the controls on a narrow screen, but playback and export depend on the browser's media support and available memory. A current desktop browser is recommended for larger clips. If a format fails, try a shorter H.264 MP4 with MP3 or WAV audio. Export does not require camera or microphone access.
Can I publish the finished video anywhere?
You download a regular MP4 to use in your own publishing workflow. Check that you have permission for every video, voice, and music file you combine. Filmcraft does not supply music licenses or publish on your behalf. Watch the downloaded file once more to check sync, speech clarity, and the ending before uploading it.
